Summary of Service

Children are protected from child abuse or neglect by agencies working together to assess the risk, and helping to prevent further abuse occurring.

Details of Service

When children, parents, members of the public or professionals become aware that a child or children might be at risk of, or suffering from abuse, they should contact the local children and young people services team for the area in which they live. If the abuse requires urgent attention because of immediate danger, the police or emergency services should be called.

For more information on the local children and young people services team, please see Service Area Teams.

The Emergency Duty Service provides out of hours service for people experiencing difficulties at night, weekends and bank holidays. They can be contacted on 0845 60 70 888. For more information, please see Emergency Duty Service.

ThinkUKnow campaign – helping to keep children safe on-line

The child exploitation and on-line protection (CEOP) centre are running a campaign to help parents and carers find out more about the emerging risks from the internet and safety tips to help keep children safe on-line. As part of this campaign there is a free registration facility on the website (www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/) where you can receive regular updates via email over the New Year. These updates will include information on new technologies, emerging risks and safety tips.
